Jim's Surgery
Who: Dr. Richard Shulick will be perfoming the surgery on Jim. He is one of the best on the planet, and specializes in Gastro Intestinal cancer, including the pancreas.
What: The surgery is called a whipple. We have decided to do this to treat his cancer, which is ampullary cancer (a type of pancreatic).
Where: Jim's surgery will be performed at the University of Colorado Hospital - Anschutz in Aurora Colorado. It is located at:
1665 Aurora Court
Aurora, Colorado
Inside the Building:
2nd floor, Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion (Surgery)
6th floor, Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion (ICU)
When: Surgery is scheduled for May 27th, 2015
He will then recover in ICU, and then remain at the hospital for an average of 1 to 2 weeks.
Why: We hope this surgery will cure Jim's cancer. The doctor will check the edges of the extraction to ensure that he has gotten all of it. It looks like chemotherapy and/or radiation will follow.
After surgery: Jim will need 4-6 months to fully recover from this surgery.
